This week is going to get a little freaky as Jamie Lee Curtis stars opposite Lindsay Lohan in Disney's remake of Freaky Friday. ComingSoon.net talked to the actress about the comedy.

Curtis stars as the mother figure in the film who somehow switches bodies with her daughter. We asked her what is different about the new film. "I think they've just taken the conceit of the first movie. I don't think there's anything that resembles the first movie in this movie," she tells us. "I think it's incredibly different, but the conceit is the same obviously, that there's conflict and then there's a switch, and then there's resolution. I think in a fable you have the opportunity of actually telling something magical, but then grounding it in some real reality. And I think that's what we tried to do here and did it very successfully so that you get both. You get the lovely light part, but then there's also this very specific reality these people are living with. You know, the death of a parent is a grim and tragic reality that's at the base point of a very funny comedy, so you have to then understand that you pay for it in the movie, and I think they do so beautifully in this movie."

Jamie Lee Curtis had to change her physical appearance for the role and she didn't mind dying her hair. "For me to be able to dye my hair in a movie, it's always good because it helps me become the character much quicker. If I'm playing somebody who looks a lot like me with nothing changed, it's harder for me. I like to go do something drastic because then it's okay, I'm no longer this person, I'm this person.

She plays a therapist with some odd patients. "I actually think what I brought to the movie was grounding the therapist's job more than, waaaay more than it was originally written. Originally, every single patient was so crazy that I said to them, it just makes this woman look crazy. I said, you know, it's a very wonderful profession, and I know many of them, and so, I said I'd like to make it that it's a real profession."

But with a comedy you can't get too serious, of course. "You're not going to have people in there with legitimate problems because that's not the movie you're making. I actually think we worked really hard to make her job real, and that she was a real doctor and that there was a real sense of it, and yet at the same time having funny patients. So, I actually think I brought a bigger dose of grounded reality to that element than was in there originally.

One of the funniest lines in the movie and the trailer is when Jamie screams out, "I'm like the Crypt Keeper". There's probably not too many actresses in Hollywood who would want to say that in a movie. "But I do look like the Crypt Keeper," she says, "I throw vanity out the window in every single thing I do. It's actually why I think I'm successful, because I don't care. And the jobs that I do where I may not care as much but a lot of people care, I think I stink. I think they're really stiff and wooden and it becomes really weird. I think the best I'll ever be is when I really let go and don't go."

She used the same thinking when deciding on the clothes for the character. "Getting to buy those clothes for this movie, the minute anything looked good on me, I threw it out the window. The minute something actually made me look almost attractive, it was like nope, forget that. Let's get the really boxy, you know because that's what it needed to be for this, and again, I much prefer to be the clown. Hide me more and more and more and more. It's harder for me if I'm supposed "Perfect". I'm dreadful in the movie because it's too much about what you look like.

The Billings Gazette delivers the good news that legendary paleontologist Jack Horner is working together with Steven Spielberg on Jurassic Park IV. The trade reports;

Horner worked closely with director Steven Spielberg as a technical adviser on the "Jurassic Park" movies. He told the youths, much to their delight, hat he is working with Spielberg on "Jurassic Park IV". He was tight-lipped about the plot but offered up one tidbit of information: "If you like velociraptors, you will love Jurassic Park Four," Horner said to his exuberant audience.

The Velociraptors definitely were a huge factor that made the first film great, we're looking forward to more of them! Thanks to 'Oviraptor' for the heads up.

John Ritter Passes Away at the Age of Only 54

Another great has passed away too soon. The Associated Press reports that John Ritter, whose portrayal of the bumbling but lovable Jack Tripper helped make the madcap comedy series Three's Company a smash hit in the 1970s, has died of a heart problem, his publicist said Friday. He was only 54.

Ritter fell ill Thursday on the set of his ABC sitcom "8 Simple Rules ... For Dating My Teenage Daughter," said Susan Wilcox, his assistant of 22 years.

The cause of death was a dissection of the aorta, the result of an unrecognized flaw in his heart, said his publicist, Lisa Kasteler.

Ritter died at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday.

Ritter, a Southern California native who lived in Beverly Hills, came to prominence for his role in "Three's Company" and had appeared in more than 25 television movies and a number of films.

If Nicky 'dies' on Earth, he will be able to get through the frozen wall and back up to Earth. The catch is that he has only a week, and that Adrian and Cassius are MUCH more powerful than he is.

Sean Connery, Winona Ryder and Klaus Maria Brandauer are in talks to topline helmer Milos Forman's upcoming adaptation of Sandor Marai's Hungarian novel Embers. Screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere is adapting the book with production scheduled to being October 8 in Prague.

The story concerns two old men, once best friends, who meet again after a 41-year break in their relationship. The friends grew up together in military school; one came from a rich landowning family and subsequently became a colonel (Connery), the other is from a more humble background (Brandauer). The pair are separated after the colonel, as a young man, marries the woman they both secretly love (Ryder).

At the same time, Ryder is also attached to star in the title role of director Robert Altman's The Widow Claire, for which discussions with financiers are taking place.

Written by Horton Foote, "Claire" is set against the backdrop of World War II. Ryder stars as a young widow with two children who is caught between the affections of two men -- a sweet young soldier about to go to war and the town's most sought-after playboy.

Jake Gyllenhaal and Matthew McConaughey have met with Altman about possibly starring opposite Ryder in "Claire."

Paramount will launch a re-release of The Italian Job, starring Mark Wahlberg, Edward Norton & Charlize Theron, in 1,500-2,000 theaters on Aug. 29 to take advantage of perceived want-to-see sentiment and the improved availability of theaters as the summer season ends.

The action remake opened with $19.5 million during the May 30-June 1 weekend but then showed impressive legs on its way to a $96.2 million total.

Many exhibitors took the film out of multiplexes during midsummer because of the screen crunch created by tentpole openings. Competition won't be nearly as severe after Labor Day.

"Job" grossed $391,691 at 217 theaters last weekend and will remain in about 120 locations this weekend.

Also, the New Zealand government has announced a NZ$4 million ($2.4 million) package to promote "The Return of the King." The world premiere will take place in Wellington - home town of the trilogy's director - on Dec. 1, with key events to include a dinner for international media and a prime ministerial reception for the cast and key crew.

"These events will be followed by a series of New Zealand-focused functions and receptions for media and industry leaders coinciding with premieres in 10 overseas cities between December and March," said Pete Hodgson, the cabinet minister in charge of "Lord of the Rings."

"These will be modeled on similar events held around the premieres of the first two 'The Lord of the Rings' movies, which were successful in raising New Zealand's profile as a filmmaking destination."

New Zealand government spending on "Rings" has topped NZ$8 million ($4.8 million) since 2001.

Columbia plans a fall start for a remake of the 1977 comedy "Fun With Dick and Jane," to star Jim Carrey.
Barry Sonnenfeld will direct and Brian Grazer will produce.

Original Col pic starred George Segal and Jane Fonda as an upper middle-class couple who turn to pulling heists to pay the bills. It was adapted from a novel by Gerald Gaiser.

FilmJerk tells us that director Rob Cohen has indeed passed on the XXX sequel and instead will helm Stealth.

Some news that came last night, thought you might be interested. FilmJerk.com has learned that as Revolution Studios moves forward on the sequel to 2002's "XXX," it will do so without the director of the first installment, Rob Cohen. Cohen will instead be directing "Stealth," a project he has been eyeing for some time and which will begin principal photography January 2004 in Australia.

Cohen reportedly had right of first refusal for "XXX2" and this means the directorial reins are likely go to Lee Tamahori, who has been in discussions to direct in the case that Cohen, as expected, ankled the Vin Diesel project.

I recently had the pleasure of watching, at an advance screening in Phoenix, Edward Zwicks' "The Last Samurai" starring Tom Cruise, Ken Watanabe, Koyuki, Billy Connelly and Timothy Spall.

The Last Samurai is an exhilirating story about Captain Woodrow Algren (Tom Cruise) who is a Civil War veteran. He is hired by the US government to help Japan construct a modern army. They are not aware of the fact that Captain Algren is actually an alcoholic who is suffering from severe depression due to the trauma he suffered in Civil War.

During that time, Japan is divided into many provinces ruled by the samurai. The samurai were considered to be the protectors of Japan and they were loyal to the royal family. The Emperor Meiji(Shichinosuke Nakamura) wanted to unite all these provinces for various reasons, the most important being money because he will profit when the United Sates and other Western nations and companies purchase goods from them.

The United States wanted to help Japan because Emperor Meiji assured the United States a most favored nation trading status if they help him modernize Japan. Japan is attempting to build railroad in the mountainous region ruled by the samurai but was unable to do so because of some rebelious samurai. Emperor Meiji threaten the samurai with his new build army and the samurai fought back.

The rebel samurai are lead by Katsumoto (Ken Watanabe) who is a respected warrior and admired by his army of 500 samurai. They live in a village with their families. They show us how the samurai live as a community in villages. Beside Katsumoto who is a fierce warrior we get to know a few other characters.

Then in the year 1876, Captain Algren arrives in Japan and begins his tasks as an advisor to the Japanese government. With the help of Simon Graham (Timothy Spall) who is his English translator, he trains the army. After a month he is ordered to take his army to attack the samurai in the mountain region where they lived. Captain Algren's ill-trained army was massacred. He is severely wounded in the battle and taken captive by Katsumoto who did not want to kill him because he wanted to study his new enemy so that he could understand whom he is fighting.

After many months of recuperating Algren is allowed by Katsumoto to roam freely throughout the village. Algren begins to understand and respect his captors. He is trained in their ways of fighting and thinking.

The final scene is one of the fiercest battle I have seen in some time. Algren is now fighting for his new family against an army that outnumbers them, but at the same time, a rather emotional moment.

When I first heard of the film, I showed no interest, thinking of another Zwick "Legend of the fall" or your average Tom Cruise action flick. Nor am I a big Cruise fan. And when I first saw the teaser in the theater a while back, I thought the whole thing was a bit on the ridiculous, Hollywood's-at-it-again side. However, I just got to see the movie, and I was completely blown away. It's actually very, very good and quite a departure from the normal condescending manner that Hollywood tends to adopt toward foreign cultures.

The soul of the film and my favorite performance was given by Tom Cruise, of course. I mentioned earlier I wasn't his biggest fan, but this movie truly changed my mind. I find him to be quite an underrated one, in terms of what I read about his acting abilities. His screen presence is completely unmatched in the business today. Take Paul Newman, Dustin Hoffman, Cary Grant and Clark Gable and you got Tom Cruise. I think the fact he is so popular and has a huge star aura (Tom Cruise the overrated Mission Impossible movie star) tends to distract most people from Tom Cruise the great American actor. He has the ability to communicate a lot of emotions with one single facial expression- a technique not taught in acting school at all.

At first, I thought Cruise made a bad mistake in dropping out of Cold Mountain for this one, but since reading Cold Mountain's awful script and lukewarm first reviews, I think he might have made the right decision after all.

Billy Connelly is unintentionally charming and effortless in the film. However, the biggest surprise for me was Ken Watanabe. I was very impressed with Ken Watanbe's quiet and understated, yet powerful characterization of the samurai leader. I found his style very reminiscent of the absolutely incredible Toshiro Mifune. He has the same amazing screen presence. His acting is very refreshing compare to the chop-socky style of the Jackie Chan and Jet Li's of hollywood.

As I said already, the battle scenes are quite impressive. However, this movie is far from just an action flick. The human aspect elevates it far above that level.

All in all, I give the film **** out of ****. John Toll's breathtaking vistas are alone worth the ticket price.

Joel Surnow, the creator of 24, and Fox Home Entertainment are in talks to create a direct-to-DVD spin-off of the real-time series, which has become one of the studio's top DVD sellers.

Surnow said they are tossing around ideas about a spin-off that would be done with an all-new cast and take place in real time, as does the TV series. "The series might touch on such things as a hostage crisis, heist or other dramatic situation that could be told in a real-time setting."

Surnow said he and Fox are considering doing an 8-hour series with different episodes similar to how a TV show runs. The direct-to-DVD series would be in production during the run of the TV show and build off the 24.

Fox is also in talks with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane about a direct-to-DVD Family Guy movie. "Family Guy Vol. 1" is the top-selling TV on DVD release of the year, with sales of more than 800,000 units since its April bow.

Dino-Mite! Having recently completed filming on the TEN mini-series Jessica, Sam Neill has revealed he'll once again walk with dinosaurs in Jurassic Park IV.

"They have a story that defies sequel-it is by building on what's gone before, and not just repeating it," says Neill, who will reprise the role of paleontologist Alan Grant from Jurassic's I and III.

"I don't like to count my chickens before they hatch, but I think this will exceed expectations. I'm looking forward to it, actually."

While script details are being kept under wraps, it's a safe bet we'll see rampaging dinosaurs wreak serious havoc. Producer Steven Spielberg rolls cameras in California and Hawaii next year for a 2005 release.

The plank has only one symbol that Patrick Gates can identify. The symbol is Cibola (see-bowl-uh) meaning the City of Gold. In order to define the rest the have to go to Ben's mother, Patrick's divorced wife. After 32 years it brings back old arguments. After that the other clue is in the President's desk in the Oval Office in the White House (which Ben and Abigail sneak into) to discover that the clue lies in The President's Book. But in order to see the book, their choice is either get elected president or kidnap the President of the United States. Which do they choose? It's obvious. With Wilkinson close on their tail, they find the book in the Library of Congress. The conspiracy then crosses to Mount Rushmore where the clue was on the hills, but (according to the Book) President Calvin Coolidge had the faces carved in so no one can find the City of Gold. When they get there they find out that they must work with Wilkinson since he has some clues of his own. Who will claim Cibola? And will the name of Gates be known as murder?

Written by Winifred Watson, the book was first published in 1938. The title character is a seasoned governess who gets a taste of a more glamorous, exciting life when sent to work in the home of nightclub performer Miss La Fosse and entrusted with sorting out the latter's highly unrespectable affairs.

Daredevil director Mark Steven Johnson has scared up an MGM pitch deal for Succubus, a horror film with comic elements that Johnson will direct right after he completes Ghost Rider with Nicolas Cage. The film centers on a cult of female demons who use their supermodel looks to seduce and steal the souls of men.

A writer will be secured quickly, and Johnson and Foster will supervise development as Johnson directs Cage in the Columbia adaptation of the Marvel Comics character Ghost Rider. Johnson will then move over and direct this film.

Succubus revolves around two friends. One's a hunky girl magnet, the other a bright nebbish guy who always watches his friend get the girl. The handsome guy is shocked when his buddy is propositioned by a drop-dead beauty. When his pal goes AWOL and spends every second with his new girlfriend, the handsome friend seeks out the woman to find out her intention. She reveals her identity and intentions, and the pal dutifully decides to tear down a succubus network that threatens the sanctity of male bonding.

Johnson and Foster are also working with MGM on a remake of the classic Jerry Lewis comedy The Bellboy.

Conductor-composer extraordinaire John Williams has signed on to write the score for the next Harry Potter film, which recently began production and is due out next year. Williams supervised the music for the first two movies, but for ''Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'' he's actually writing it. (If all goes well, he'll do the score for ''Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,'' the fourth film based on J.K. Rowling's novels.) Williams is booked for a slew of movies in 2005, including Steven Spielberg's remake of ''The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'' slated to star Jim Carrey, and ''Indiana Jones 4'' and ''Star Wars: Episode III.''
